THE CHANTELLS & U BROWN - Children of Jah + desperate times (1977 phase one)

"Children of jah" is the anthem of the talented chantells (Tommy Thomas, Lloyd Forrest, and lead singer Sam Bramwell also known as the channels) who made the fame of the very cult phase 1 label with it. A typical roots song of the time, probably backed by the revolutionaries. It could have been the itals or the jays...Anyway it's always good to hear it with here the toast part made by a great U brown. It's followed by "desesperate time" a very good stepper riddim...

THE NAROBH SISTERS + THE GAYTONES - Promised land + version (1974 Gay feet)
I virtually know nothing about these sisters, but the tune is very nice. Produced on gayfeet's Sonia Pottinger label, it sounds like a lovely child song mixed with some nyahbighi background and a groovy jamaican drum and bass...The gaytones is just a generic name for the house band. I've heard that Judy Mowatt could be singing on it but i just don't believe it's true (my ears say so...). If you know more than i please leave a comment!

Fresh from the last weeek , this video contains the tunes "three meals a day" from Dennis Brown, "Freedom" an early tune of Earl sixteen from the black ark days, and "roots" one of Bob Marley's anthem...Great dub live show from Mad Professor & Earl Sixteen (with help from Joe Ariwa). It was a hot and sold out place...

WELTON IRIE - Army life + version (1982 Hitbound)
I Like Welton Irie so much ! He's a great underrated DJ and did a great job during the beginning of the eighties. Here's one of his biggest hit, produced by Jo jo Hookim on his hitbound label. Truly a classic of the rub a dub years (done over the "mad mad" riddim) Welton makes no secret how "funny" it seems to be in the Jamaican army, really turning them into ridiculous...No doubt there must have some gnashing of teeth in that time. I think Yellowman followed the trail and made one about the soldiers as well... This single is not so rare but still good!(with version)

GREGORY ISAACS - Chucky no lucky + wine in time (1974 G.G Records)

Sad news these days...
Another veteran singer passing away.
R.I.P Gregory "cool ruler" Isaacs
Gregory's voice is warning rude boys on this single!
Produced by Alvin Ranglin on his GG records label in 1974
It sounds like an early reggae and it's very soft...

EDI FITZROY - Handle and blade + first aid (1981 Klasse 1 international)

Edi Fitzroy is one of my favorite artist and very underrated to my ears. Here's a cover of the heptones "i've got the handle" from 1981. don't know this producer A.GENUS it sounds like a pseudonym...Anyway it's a good one and got the raw sound of the jamaican studios. The tune is stripped to the bone and ain't got heptones lover's backing vocals anymore. Dub is wicked too!

VARIOUS ARTISTS - "GREEN BAY STORY" RIDDIM

JUST LISTEN!
